For this challenge I was inspired by science class to create a card with the new chapter 3 die set specimens using the specimen slide diet cuts. For video tutorial click video link here.

Used: Stamp set inventor 7 CMS374, Ranger alcohol ink Sepia, Sizzix die cuts alphanumeric theory, specimen, distress archival ink black soot,  distress inks vintage photo, brushed corduroy, distress oxide bushed corduroy, Idea-ology French industrial 12 x 12, worn wallpaper, transparent wings,  metallic craft stock collage medium tonic snips, and mica tiles.

To start the science theme card I decided to create a Drippy Inc. background using the distress in colours brushed corduroy vintage photo, and brushed corduroy oxide ink.

To start with I smashed my in pads on to the craft mat portion of the Tim Holtz media mat and for my substrate I decided to use some distress watercolour cardstock.

Next I dipped and layered the ink on the watercolour card stock. I dried each layer in between with the Ranger heat tool to get and in key background. Below is my first inkey layer.

Then I repeated dipping and drying until I was satisfied with my inkybackground.
Below is my completed and keep background for the science themed card.

For the next step I cut down my and keep background to 3 inches by 3 3/4 and 5 inches. For the base layer I used some worn wallpaper measuring in at 5 1/2“ x 4 and one quarter inches.
For the next step in a project I decided to stamp with the Tim Holt Stamps at inventor number 7 CMS374. For stamping I am using a large acrylic block and some of the Tim Holtz Distress archival black soot ink.
below are the finished results of stamping over the top of our distressed background. I chose the stamps up because it reminded me of science experiments with electricity.

For the next step I started to create the scientific specimen slides. Each of the slides was dicot from the Tim Holtz die set specimen from chapter 3. For each of the slides I asked around the edges of them with a little bit of distress vintage photo using some dome on a mini blending tool.

Now for the fun part we are going to be altering some mica tiles with some Sepia  Alcohol Ink.
With each mica tile I gently pulled the layers apart until I had two separate pieces.
Then using a piece of round felt I gently dumped on the alcohol ink to the mica tile to give it a more vintage look.

For the next step I gently lined up the mica tile with the little window on the specimen side frame before cutting a piece to fit the frame. For cutting I use some of the Tim Holtz Tonic snip scissors.

Now for the finishing touches.  On the slide I added a transparent butterfly from the Idea-ology ephemera set transparent wings.
Here are the slides now with small butterflies specimen.
Then I decided to also add the word specimen in a phoframed metal bracket. I die cut these pieces first from black kraft stock and then the frame from metallic kraft stock to make these labels.
Here I am adding the slides to the card. On the back of each slide I added some mini foam squares to give the card a little bit more dimension.
For alignment I decided to do a little staircase with each slide slightly above the other.
For the last step of the card I die cut with Alpha numeric die set theory.
Since this was a science themed card I decided to add the words learn and idea.

Thank you so much for joining me here today at the crafty corner. Until next time, we happy crafting!

  1. Very CUTE!!! (And also extremely helpful to me since I have yet to get going with that die set!)
Science was not my idea of fun, yet my ChiefHubby and both Sons really enjoyed it. Blah! I'm more of the Speech/Drama, English and Literature type. I still have nightmares of not having my Math homework finished and I'm late getting into the classroom, lol!
