For the moving parts challenge I have decided to make an Infiniti card. This is super exciting because this is the first time that I’ve ever attempted to make one. These cards have always seem to be so intricate and complicated and way beyond anything I could ever make, but today I decided to take the plunge and try my hand at making one of these infinity cards.
Below is the video link for the making of the infinity card.
Materials list:
To start the card I first cut four pieces of cardstock at 6” x 3 inches. For card stock I chose a solid coloured card stock at about 60 GSM. Cardstock does not need to be super sick but it is a good idea to have cardstock that is fairly durable some thing a little bit more sturdy than index wait because this card is going to be moving and needs to have some durability.
Next turning the piece of cardstock on its side I scored lines at 1 1/2 inches and 4 1/2 inches using a score buddy. Then I repeated these measurements and scores for the other three pieces of cardstock.
Then on two of the four pieces of cardstock I made marks at one and a half inches down from the top of the cardstock. These marks are going to show me where I need to place tape and where to stop.
Next I turned two pieces of the cardstock sideways these are the two that have my mark on them at one and a half inches. Then I placed pieces of scor tape above each of the markings. On the bottom piece of cardstock I placed score tape below the markings.
In this picture you can see exactly where I have placed the tape. When removing the back from score tape I like to use the Tim Holt‘s die pick this helps me lift off the tape backing with ease.
Now come to the part that turns the card into something magical taking the third piece of cardstock I turned it sideways so that it was facing up and down. I placed it corner to corner with the horizontal facing pieces of cardstock and placed it down carefully on top of the score tape. I then did the same thing on the opposite side so I have two pieces of cardstock on the bottom facing horizontally and two piece of cardstock on the top facing vertically.
This part here is what I called the face of the card where the two vertical pieces of cardstock look like to barn doors that open outwards. In the YouTube demonstration video I show how to work the card open and how to make all of the sides move with ease. Click here for demonstration.
Next we’re going to be cutting some pieces of cardstock for the card panel bases. Here I decided to use part of my stash I have kept some old Tim Holtz Idea-ologycard kaft stock in my stash and this seems like a great time to use it up. To cut up the Kraft stock I am going to be using the Tonic Tim Holtz mini trimmer.
For background pieces I cut eight squares measuring at 2 3/4 inches eight rectangles 1 1/4 x 2 3/3 and eight small squares measuring at 1 1/4. For these pieces I used three different colours of cardstock for added interest I decided to also add a metallic cardstock in to the mix.
Now let’s set aside our pieces and create some backgrounds. Here I created some backgrounds using Distress Sprays and Oxide Sprays. These backgrounds will be also cut up to go on top of our previously cut cardstock pieces. To start I pulled out the Tim Holtz splat box and some paper towels to place my substrates on.
Four colours for my first background I decided to use some distress oxide spray uncharted mariner, distressed spray stain mermaid Lagoon, and crackling and Campfire. First I sprayed the watercolour cardstock with Distress sprayer and then I added in the colours. Then I dried off the paper with the Ranger heat tool and sprinkled on more water until I was happy with the result.
Below are the finished backgrounds that I completed using a mixture of distressspraystain and Distress Oxide Sprays. For sprays are used uncharted Meriner Distress, Oxide old paper distress oxide, brushed corduroy oxide, and Distress spray stains crackling campfire, mermaid lagoon, and vintage photo.
Once all the backgrounds were created and dry eyes and cut them up into squares and rectangles below are the measurements that I used as well as the number of each type of shape.
Again for cutting up these pieces I decided to use the Tonic Tim Holtz mini trimmer.
With all the pieces cut up now it’s time to add some embellishment to them. Here I decided to use stamp set botanic collage CMS447. Some of the squares were stamped with Distress archival black soot and others I decided to emboss with Ranger silver and embossing powder.
For the sentiment I used some old packaging from other Tim Holtz products and I embossed with some ranger gold embossing powder sentiments from the steps at CMS 446 noteworthy.
When embossing small elements I like to use the Sizzix Tim Holtz squeezers to help save my fingers from the heat.
Now that we have finished embellishing all of our pieces it is time to start the card assembly. First I layered my backgrounds and mattered pieces together using an ATG gun. On side one of the card I placed two squares and four rectangles.
Here is the Front of the card along with some Idea-ology word stickers.
Below is side two. Here I used two large squares and four small squares on top of the large squares I also placed another set of sentiments.
For side three I placed two large squares and four small squares. Also I found a couple of Idea-ology ephemera pieces with lines on them that could be used to write a message on the card.
On side number four I placed two large squares and four rectangular pieces.
Below is a picture that shows the finish card along with all four sides. For the best view of the infinity card and a it’s moving pieces check out the video. To view video click here.

Welcome to a new challenge at the Funkie Junkie Blog "Your challenge is to create a vintage or shabby chic project inspired by the quote 'Time has a wonderful way of showing us what really matters' and it must have a time piece like a clock, pocket watch or photo of a time piece!" For this challenge I decided to make journal spread for the theme "Time Shows Us What Really Matters" Sometimes there are moments in time that I would like to freeze. The day my youngest son was born in 2018 was one of those. Due to unforeseen complications we almost didn't get to meet him, but thanks to wonderful medical care he was born safe and sound. I can not think of another moment in time I have ever been so grateful. So this moment in ti
