Chalk it Up: TFJ Challenge

Hello and welcome to a new challenge at the Funkie Junkie Challenge Blog
"September is normally when kids head back to school, it is when the learning begins again....Create a project about learning, does not have to be a school themed project, learning is not just about books and school, sometimes it learning a new scrapbooking technique, or a cool fact and you must include chalk!  IE - chalk paint, chalk board, actual chalk...."

This week we are playing with chalk. I decided to work with chalk, distress spray stains, and frosted crystals. The techniques I am using today is the frosted crystal and chalk technique Tim showed during the 2020 Holiday YouTube Live. Used: floral outline stamp set CMS430, idea-ology word sticker labels, AI black cardstock, TH water brush, chalk, Ranger Heat tool, distress mica spray stains flickering candle, tree lot, snowflake, and peppermint stick. For instructional video click here.

To start our card today I took floral outlines stamp with the small flower buds as the main focal point of the card.

The foundation of this card is the Ranger black AI cardstock. I have found this is a great surface because it is not smooth, soft, but not smooth. It grips chalk very easily.

To start I stamped with distress embossing ink on the black AI cardstock. When stamping I always check the stamp for shine to make sure there is good ink coverage.

As we can see here we can see that the image has fully stamped on the foundation.
Then I slid some scrap paper under the base. Next I added some frosted crystal embossing powder.

Then after tipping off the extra powder I went in with a paint brush to brush off the little extra bits of embossing powder before embossing with an embossing tool.

With frosted crystal it is necessary to be light handed with the heat. Frosted crystal is frosted and if too much heat is applied the frosted look will become transparent instead of frosted. Here as I tilt the card in the light it is possible to see the frosted effect of the embossing powder.

Next I added the chalk. For the chalk I used some large white sidewalk chalk that I found at the Dollar store. This was just rubbed directly onto the embossing powder and the cardstock base.

Then I went in with my fingers and smudged the chalk, rubbing it into the cardstock.

To set the chalk I spritzed the cardstock with the TH sprayer then let it air dry.
For the next step I will be painting with distress mica spray stains. The distress mica spray stains I used are:
On my media mat I dropped some of the mica spray stain onto the gridded glass area to use as a pallet. From here it was easy to pick up the colors and paint.
With the fine detail water brush I then painted mica spray stains on the insides of the frosted crystal embossing lines.
Below is the finished result of painting with distress mica spray stains.
The last thing I did was to add an idea-ology label sticker.
Thank you so much for joining me here today for the Chalk it Up Funkie Junkie challenge. I look forward to seeing all of your creative makes. Happy crafting!
