Shimmering Summer Fun: TFJB Challenge

Hello and welcome this week I will be hosting my first challenge theme over at the Funkie Junkie Blog. This challenge is running from July 28th to August 10th. The challenge theme for this week is  Shimmering Summer Fun. Use bright summer colors in your project and add some shimmer, shine, or sparkle to it. Does summer make you think of sparkling blue oceans, family vacations, or flowers in full bloom? We want to know, so add some shimmer to your cards, tags, scrapbook pages, and journal spreads. Happy crafting!  There is also a chance to win a $25.00 gift card to the store.

Don’t forget you can also join the fun through Instagram as well. To enter on Instagram: If you are entering through a public forum (such as Instagram) you'll need to include the words 'Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge' and use the hash tag #frillyandfunkiechallenge Welcome to our newest challenge: ‘Shimmering Summer Fun!’

For this week's project was inspired by the fantastic new distress color Prize Ribbon. I paired the new color with stamp set Bold Sayings, some rainbow butterflies, distress glitter, and some die cuts from flower fields to create this shinny and shimmering card. Click here for video tutorial.

Below are the materials used to create this card: DIY distress ink pad, distress embossing ink, distress glitter, stamp from flutter CMS, Stamps from Bold sayings CMS, Tonic mini snips, embossing gun, Ranger sticky embossing powder, stamping platform or acrylic block, heat stable acetate, collage medium, and distress white heavy stock.
For this card I decided I wanted to work in layers and I found two different ways to do this. To this I first lined up some heavy stock on a stamping platform with sticky grid.
Then I stamped with a DIY distress ink pad. For this DIY distress pad I used picked raspberry, mustard seed, mermaid lagoon, and wilted violet.
With the butterfly stuck to the stamping platform I made note of the corner blocks and then switched out my substrate.
Here I have placed down the heat resistant acetate.
Then I stamped with the distress embossing ink.
Here you can see the stamped outline of the embossing ink.
Then I sprinkled sticky embossing powder over the top.
With the embossing powder in place I then brushed off the excess embossing powder with a small brush.
Now to get the butterfly to sparkle. Next I quickly embossed the sticky embossing powder. Sticky embossing powder dries very quickly so it is necessary to be quickly apply the glitter. To apply the glitter I used a glitter duster by Stampers Anonymous.
Here is the now sparkling butterfly.
I then tried a second technique to layer the butterflies using an acrylic block. Again I stamped with the DIY pad. This time I filled the entire background with colorful butterflies.
Then I placed the heat stable acetate over the top.
Next I visually lined up the butterfly stamp and stamped again with the distress embossing ink. Here I stamped a butterfly in embossing ink to match each rainbow butterfly.
Here you can see the stamped embossing ink butterflies.
Then I added sticky embossing powder over all the butterflies on the acetate.
Again I did some clean up around each butterfly with a small paint brush.
Now it is time to emboss again. As before I had the glitter duster nearby at hand to immediately sprinkle as soon as the sticky embossing powder melted.
The glitter sticks beautifully to the sticky embossing powder.
Then I  lined up the acetate over the rainbow butterflies.
Next I die cut with the Sizzix die flower fields to go on the front of the acetate. I used some of the Idea-ology kraft cardstock cool colors with some double sided adhesive on the back.
I also added a few snippets of flower fields at the top of the acetate as well. On the back of the acetate I added some ATG tape and camouflaged it behind the flowers and then applied it to the acetate to the card base.
Then I trimmed off the excess pieces overhanging the card.
Next I used the bold sayings stamp set to stamp the sentiment. I stamped the sentiment with embossing ink.
After stamping with embossing ink I added some Prize Ribbon distress embossing glaze.
Next dusted off the little extra specks on the paper.
Embossed with an embossing gun.
Then I edged the sentiment with some Prize Ribbon distress ink.
Below are the finished results of distressing the edges of the paper.
To add the sentiment I stuck four squares of foam tape on the back.
Here are the finished results of my card design for Shimmering summer fun.
Thank you for joining me here today and until next time happy crafting!
